Speaking: Explaining Technical Information to a Mixed Audience

It’s a challenge to present deeply technical material to a room of people with varying expertise levels. If you leave it out, you’re abandoning the substance of your presentation. If you focus on it exclusively, you will lose most of the room. Instead, include the material, but plan to repeat it two (or even three!) times.

Hilary Mason

Hilary is a Data Scientist in Residence at Accel Partners. She is also a Scientist Emeritus at bitly, co-founder of HackNY, co-host of DataGotham, and member of NYCResistor.

Previously, Hilary served as Chief Data Scientist for bitly. She also served on Mayor Michael Bloomberg's Technology and Innovation Advisory Council.

Additionally, Hilary currently serves as an advisor to several NY startups including knod.es, collective[i], MortarData as well as DataKind, a non-profit that brings together leading data scientists with high impact social organizations. She has served as a mentor to Betaspring, the Providence Rhode Island-based start up accelerator, and TechStars New York. Hilary earned her BA in Computer Science from Grinnell College.
