Speaking: 1 Kitten per Equation

Use a ratio of one cute cat photo per equation in your talk. This is a concise way of saying that a ratio of one part heavy, technical content to one part light-hearted explanation is ideal. You may have to play with the ratio depending on the audience or the expectations, but people react best when they have the chance to learn something fundamentally hard and interesting while, at the same time, getting to smile.

Hilary is a Data Scientist in Residence at Accel Partners. She is also a Scientist Emeritus at bitly, co-founder of HackNY, co-host of DataGotham, and member of NYCResistor.

Previously, Hilary served as Chief Data Scientist for bitly. She also served on Mayor Michael Bloomberg's Technology and Innovation Advisory Council.

Additionally, Hilary currently serves as an advisor to several NY startups including knod.es, collective[i], MortarData as well as DataKind, a non-profit that brings together leading data scientists with high impact social organizations. She has served as a mentor to Betaspring, the Providence Rhode Island-based start up accelerator, and TechStars New York. Hilary earned her BA in Computer Science from Grinnell College.
